Anyone who has lost someone they love knows the strange contradiction of grief: the person is gone, and yet they are not. We hear their laugh in our own. We still speak to them. We feel their presence. Their love continues to shape how we live.
Eternal Rhythm is about that enduring presence. It explores the comforting possibility that those we have lost have not disappeared, but simply moved beyond the range of what we can see and hear. Science reveals that much of reality exists beyond our senses: sounds too low for the human ear, light our eyes cannot register. Spirituality offers another way of understanding what may exist beyond our perception. Perhaps everlasting love exists there too.
John O’Donohue, the Irish poet and philosopher, wrote of “a place in the soul that is eternal, a place time cannot touch, where between soul friends there is no distance”.
Dancing throughout the painting is also the old Irish proverb: “Tiocfaidh críoch ar an saol, ach mairfidh grá agus ceol” (Life will come to an end, but love and music will live forever).
The words grá, (love), and ceol (music), return again and again through the layers of paint, like a heartbeat that continues to echo.
Eternal Rhythm is for anyone who has ever longed for the physical presence of someone they love, while still feeling them close in ways they cannot explain. It offers a gentle reassurance: love does not disappear with physical absence, and the bond you share does not end; it simply changes key.
