Most of us have known a love that made us more fully ourselves. Not because they give us something we were missing, but because their presence awakens something beautiful that was always there. We become warmer, braver, more alive, and we realise this self was there all along. Love of that kind does not change us. It reveals us.
Light of Your Soul is about that awakening. It draws on words from Anam Cara by Irish poet and philosopher John O’Donohue, who wrote that each of us carries an inner light, and that love is what allows it to shine. He describes the soul becoming itself in the warmth of love, and the possibilities of our destiny beginning to blossom and grow.
This is resonance in its most tender form. In physics, a string will begin to sound when the same note is played nearby, because that note is already within it. Love works the same way. It does not give us something we lack. It sets free what we already hold.
The painting is an invitation to remember the people who brought you to life, and the light in yourself you may have forgotten is there. Perhaps the greatest gift of being loved is not that someone makes us whole, but that they help us recognise the light we have carried within ourselves all along.
