Conflict of Interest, Gallagher’s most recent work from this collection, delves into the complex inner tension between two opposing aspects of her identity.

On one side, there is the contentment with the stability, success, and safety she has found in a city like Dubai. On the other, a sense of restlessness and frustration arises, fueled by the injustices unfolding across the globe.

Leopards, a recurring symbol in Gallagher’s oeuvre, typically embody notions of fantasy and freedom. In this piece, however, their presence shifts from an escape into a confrontation, symbolizing the internal struggle rather than external liberation.

The women in the painting also reflect this evolution; no longer poised in powerful stances, they are instead captured in moments of vulnerability, either turned away or casting a wary glance back. Conflict of Interest marks a pivotal departure from Gallagher’s earlier works, where personal expression now begins to confront global realities, giving way to a more reflective, politically aware practice.
