Homeland (الوطن)

In this large abstraction deep green dissolves into off-white, evoking the meeting point between land and sea.

Embedded within the paint are fragments of 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗸𝗵 𝗭𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱’𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝗲𝗺 ‘دِنيا مَ احلى وَطرْها!’ (𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝗪𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲) an ode to the blessings and beauty of the land. Within the texture of the paint, flows the 𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗜𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵 ‘𝗦𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻’, one of Ireland’s earliest poetic texts, where the speaker proclaims unity with the natural land: “𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙖… 𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙖𝙣 𝙬𝙖𝙫𝙚, 𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙬𝙠 𝙤𝙣 𝙖 𝙘𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙛.”

Through these poetic lines woven into the painting, the piece becomes a visual reflection of the bond between people and their land. ‘Homeland’ is a reminder that wherever we are in the world, the memory of our land lives within us.
