There are moments when the vastness of the natural world calms something within us. Standing at the edge of the sea, we feel both infinitely small and profoundly connected to something greater than ourselves.
When our thoughts are overwhelming and our emotions difficult to understand, somehow the reassurance of the natural world can bring a sense of peace that nothing else can. We may not find the answers we are searching for, yet somehow, in its presence, our need for answers begins to soften.
For centuries, poets and mystics have explored the mysteries of existence and the limits of human perception. In the ancient Irish tale The Voyage of Bran, the sea is revealed as a magnificent flowering plain, suggesting that reality holds wonders beyond what our senses can perceive. The poet and philosopher, Rabindranath Tagore describes the sea as speaking “the language of eternal question,” while the Irish mystic AE writes of a voice from the water passing through his very being.
Their words emerge and dissolve beneath translucent layers of blue, echoing the elusive nature of the experiences they describe.
There is a profound peace in accepting that we need not understand every mystery of existence to feel deeply connected to it. Sometimes the most extraordinary moments are those in which we surrender our need for answers and simply allow ourselves to feel the wonder of being alive.
