Ocean of Wisdom

This painting gathers wisdom from across cultures into a single current of thought.

Chief Dan George, the Coast Salish poet and leader, writes of kinship with all beings, human and animal, reminding us that “we are one after all, you and I.”

Roman philosophers, Cicero and Seneca echo the same truth: that life is not lived for ourselves alone, but in responsibility to others, and that as long as we walk among humans we must practice humanity.

Centuries later, the Irish philosopher John O’Donohue describes the soul as a light flowing between self and other, where love and understanding create the ground of belonging.

Flowing together across the surface of the work, these voices move like water, dissolving boundaries until the self is carried into the collective. The painting becomes an ocean of shared wisdom, a meditation on the truth that beneath all difference, we are bound together.
