Loinnir na Farraige (Radiance of the Ocean)

This small but powerful piece was inspired by the Irish- language poem Faoiseamh a Gheobhadsa by Máirtín Ó Direáin, which speaks to the search for a feeling of solace or peace by journeying home – a return to something simple, familiar and grounding.

The author describes finding solace on the ‘sea island’ that is his home, while walking by the ocean.

Fragments of the poem move loosely through the surface, partially formed and softly obscured, echoing the rhythm of thought before stillness is found, and the energising movement of the ocean.

The painting holds both the energy of renewal and the feeling of moving towards solace. It reflects that instinct many recognise: to return to the sea, to walk, to breathe, to come back to oneself.
