Suaimhneas Cois Farraige (Solace by the Sea)

AED 12500

Oil, Pastel and Texture Medium on Canvas
140 x 115cm

Inspired by an Irish-language poem Faoiseamh a Gheobhadsa by Máirtín Ó Direáin, this piece is centred on the idea of returning home, in search of a grounding sense of ease, and finding solace by the sea.

Verses in Gaelic are written through the layers of paint, softened and partially obscured, appearing and disappearing across the surface. The language exists as something felt rather than just read; a presence that carries memory, belonging and a deep-rooted connection to place.

The poem moves through the familiar rhythm of the shoreline – walking by the sea, where space opens, thoughts settle and something steadier returns. It reflects a kind of solace many recognise: the calm found in being near the ocean, in stepping away from the chaos of life, even briefly and feeling restored.

Blue tones shift between depth and lightness, with textures reminiscent of sand and stone moving through the canvas. The surface holds a sense of movement, like the tide – constant, reassuring, and returning always to shore.
